My positive experience that I have from a high school sporting event is watching Montross Christian High School play Oak Hill Academy. Both teams are nationally ranked in high school basketball, and in that game you have a couple of the best players in the country playing. On Montross Christian you have Kevin Durant, the 2008 Rookie of the Year and Greivis Vasquez who is Maryland's best player versus Ty Lawson and Michael Beasley, the 2008 NCAA Player of the Year and the rest of Oak Hill's team. The game was very interesting, Oak Hill was undefeated, and was headed for another National Championship. Montross Christian and head coach Stu Vetter has had success in the past in beating the basketball power Oak Hill, so there was a big build up for the game. Also Kevin Durant went to Oak Hill the previous school year and transferred to Montross. The game was sold out and what I was impressed with is that Oak Hill had a TV production set up at the game. This game was like going to a NBA game. Many of college's do not have the type of production equipment that Oak Hill has. The game was a classic and did not disappoint its fans. Montross beat Oak Hill on a buzzer beater to ruin its undefeated season and another National Championship. I was impressed on how good Kevin Durant was. He was playing against top competition and he was like a man amongst boys. I will probably always remember this game and I wish that everyone could play in front of a crowd and have the experience of being a star for a day like these players were.
My most negative high school sports experience that I have had, has happen on a couple of occasions. Playing football and basketball in western Pennsylvania. We would play teams that did not have any black players on there team and me and my teammates would get called niggers, and it is not like that I went to an all black school, it was just that our best athletes were always black. At least when I went to high school there, it has completely changed now. I remember it happening two times my junior year and two times my senior year. Before attending that high school they had a bench clearly brawl against a team. My junior year when the opposing teams called one of our players a nigger we sent a player after him to try to injure him and we did the same my Senior year. In football it was against the same team, but basketball it was against different high schools. It is something that is very uncalled for and when things happen like this it is just asking for trouble.
What can you really do but to try to ignore them or fight them, but if you try to fight them then you look like the bad guy, so I guess you have to be strong enough to play through it. I believe that there is nothing really that scholastic governance can do but say if they hear that type of language then they will kick the players out the game, but that is far from the referee's minds.

College Athletics
My perspective of college athletics is that i think majority of the athletes (football and basketball) go to college to just play a sport, and if they get a degree that is just a bonus. Most of my friends that have attended D1 schools rarely receive a degree and if they do get a degree it is because they went back to get it after taking a break from school. In football and basketball as much as people want it to be school first, athletics second, it is the other way around. Lets be real, these athletes probably would not attend college if they did not play a sport. Plus in D1, the players know that they are one step away from the pro's where they will probably make more money playing a couple years then they will the rest of their life working a regular job.

The First Week
The first week of this class was ok. I ment it is no different from any other week to me. The post that we had to do was ok. I had to do my post on the NHL. The NHL is something that I don't watch so when I looked for an article I wanted to get something that was interesting. I hope the people that read my summary were able to get a clear view of what the article was saying. I'm done with with week one now and on to week two.

I did not do much over Christmas break. I was here in Slippery Rock pretty much the whole break. I went home to Virginia for a week, and that was about it. I only received one gift so far because I have not been to my Dad's and Grandma's house yet. One would ask why I have not received it yet but if you are part of the basketball team you would know why. The only gift that I got was a shirt, it is pretty nice. I give my sister $200 so she could get what ever she wanted.
I really do not have a favorite TV show, if i had one it would be sportcenter. The reason why I would say sportcenter is because that is the only show that I watch daily.
Since it is basketball season I would say my favorite team is Pitt. I have been a fan from back in the 80's when Sean Miller played. I think the reason why I liked Pitt is because my grandfather liked them and he talked about Pitt all the time. Half my family likes Pitt and the other half my family like Georgetown, and that is big rivalry.
I have not picked a book yet but I am going to library right after this, so I will let you know later about my book so stay tuned.

Is it a myth or is it true?
I have had this discussion with one of my friends. He believe that people work out more when they live in warm weather climates than in cold weather. He's reasoning is because people that live in warm weather will work out more because they do not have to bundle up because the weather is better. I don't know if this is necessarily true but we as America's perceive that people that live in Florida, California, Texas and Arizona work out more. When you look at commercials or when ever they show these places on TV they always show how great people look and how great the place is. If you believe this to be true please leave a comment.
